New Delhi: The first day of India vs England 2nd Test was washed out due to incessant rain at the Lord's cricket ground, without a ball being bowled.

The match was scheduled to start at 15:30 IST but was delayed because of the rain, which forced the pitch to remain under covers throughout the day.

After waiting for the rain to subside, the umpires finally called it a day at 21:20 IST. This was the first time that the entire day's play was washed out due to bad weather since August 24, 2013, when the fourth day of the fifth Ashes clash at The Oval was abandoned.

The England team lead the current five-match Test series 1-0 after beating India by 31 runs in the first Test at Edgbaston last week.
