New Delhi: Justice Ranjan Gogoi on Wednesday was sworn-in as the new Chief Justice of India (CJI) at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He is the 46th Chief Justice of the country. Gogoi was administered the oath by President Ram Nath Kovind. CJI Gogoi is the first CJI from the North-East and his tenure will end in November next year.
Gogoi has also been heading a bench in the apex court that is monitoring the preparation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in his home state Assam.
He is also the Executive Chairman of National Legal Service Authority (NALSA).
