New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the demise of Union Minister Ananth Kumar. Expressing condolences to Kumar's family, President Kovind said that minister's death is a tragic loss to public life in the country and for the people of Karnataka. Prime Minister Modi also took to Twitter to express sorrow saying, “Extremely saddened by the passing away of my valued colleague and friend, Shri Ananth Kumar ji.
He was a remarkable leader, who entered public life at a young age and went on to serve society with utmost diligence and compassion. He will always be remembered for his good work". Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that he is "shocked and pained" over the demise of Ananth Kumar.
The 59-year-old political leader, who was suffering from cancer, breathed his last at Shankar Cancer and Research Hospital in Bengaluru in the wee hours of Monday.
Kumar was holding charge of two key ministries - Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, and Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in the Union Cabinet.
