Hyderabad: Durga Puja, the 10-day-long festival, was celebrated across country with great pomp and show, but its conclusion has left many lakes polluted. One such lake is the 450-year-old Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad. The condition of the lake went from bad to worse due to idol immersion after the devotees bid adieu to Goddess Durga.
The lake takes the brunt of idol immersion from across the city. The reluctant devotees of Goddess Durga continue to practice idol immersion in lakes, not identifying the environmental hazards it creates.
