New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condoled the death of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who breathed his last at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital.

Since Thursday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP leader LK Advani, party chief Amit Shah and Union ministers Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and Venkaiah Naidu and several other leaders visited Vajpayee at AIIMS.

"India grieves the demise of our beloved Atal Ji. His passing away marks the end of an era. He lived for the nation and served it assiduously for decades. My thoughts are with his family, BJP Karyakartas and millions of admirers in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti," read one of PM Modi's tweets.
