Thiruvanantapuram: Celebration is the last thing on people's minds as the state still tries to apprehend the devastation caused by the worst floods of the century Kerala has witnessed.

However, the undying spirit of the people of Kerala can be witnessed by their sombre celebration of Onam even at relief camps.

Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, commemorates the return of mythical demon king Mahabali to see his beloved subjects at the beginning of 'Chingam', the first month of the Malayalam calendar.

Cheering up people, PM Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind too wished people.

President tweeted, "Good wishes to fellow citizens, particularly to our brothers and sisters in Kerala, on Onam.  May this festival mark a new beginning for all those in Kerala recovering in the aftermath of the floods, and gradually beginning to rebuild their lives."

PM Modi tweeted, "May this Onam give further strength to the people of Kerala to overcome the adversities they have been facing for the past few days. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with Kerala and prays for the happiness as well as prosperity of it’s citizens."
