New Delhi: The Supreme Court has today issued notice to the Jammu and Kashmir state government and sought a reply on Kathua rape and murder case plea filed by the victim's father.
The apex court also directed the J&K government to provide police protection to victim's family members and the counsel representing them.
The girl's father had requested the Supreme Court to shift the trial to Chandigarh, citing a backlash and security fears for his family.
The lawyer representing the family of the eight-year-old raped and killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua had said that she feared that she can be "raped or killed".
The country was left in shock after a police charge-sheet exposed the horror of what the child suffered before her death following a nation-wide protest.
