Kashmir on high alert  as terrorists abduct relatives of five policemen

This comes a day after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Syed Shakeel Ahmad, who is the son of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin.

Srinagar: A high alert has been sounded in Jammu and Kashmir after terrorists abducted family members of five police personnel in South Kashmir on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. The abductions were carried out after the terrorists raided houses of many policemen in the Kashmir Valley.

Jammu and Kashmir Police said, "Some incidents of abduction have come to the notice of Police in South Kashmir. We are ascertaining details and circumstances. In due course, it shall be placed in public domain."

This comes a day after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Syed Shakeel Ahmad, who is the son of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin.

The abduction reportedly took place in Shoipan, Kulgam, Anantnag and Awantipora in Kashmir.

According to sources, the abducted persons are relatives of police personnel working in Jammu and Kashmir.
