Chennai: The Kauvery Hospital, where M Karunanidhi is admitted, has in its latest bulletin said that 'the DMK chief is "extremely critical and unstable."
There had been a "significant decline" in the condition of Karunanidhi, 94, over the last few hours and his vitals were deteriorating "despite maximum medical support", said the Kauvery hospital.
"There has been a decline in the medical condition of Karunanidhi. Maintaining his vital organ functions continues to remain a challenge considering his age related ailments," said the hospital statement.
Meanwhile, a huge crowd of DMK workers and supporters has massed outside the hospital.
The crowd started to swell after the medical bulletin from the hospital on Monday evening said that Karunanidhi''s condition had deteriorated and maintain his vital signs had become a challenge.
