Encounter breaks out in Srinagar; policeman killed, three jawans injured

Srinagar: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Srinagar on Sunday morning. A Special Operations Group policeman was killed, while two CRPF personnel and a JKP jawan were injured in the gunbattle at Batmaloo in the state capital.

The encounter was on, Senior police officer Shesh Paul Vaid tweeted. The security forces advanced with extreme caution since the congested area has several small streets.

Police have blocked all the roads leading to Batmaloo. A search operation was launched by security forces in Batamaloo on Sunday morning following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area, a police officer said.

A gunbattle broke out after terrorists opened fire at the security forces. Mobile internet has been snapped in the city, news agency Press Trust of India reported.
