Guwahati/ Kokrajhar (Assam): A moderate intensity earthquake rattled parts of Assam on Wednesday.
Measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, the earthquake hit parts of Assam. The trembler struck 120 kilometer west of Guwahati, forcing people to rush out of their homes. The tremors were also felt in adjoining Siliguri and other parts of West Bengal up to Katihar, Purnea, Araria, Kishanganj, Sahebganj in Bihar. Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh also felt the tremors.
The epicenter of the quake was 11 km away from Assam's Kokrajhar district. No loss of life and property has been reported so far.
