New Delhi: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has revealed in a tweet that Karunanidhi, who died at the age of 94 in Chennai on Tuesday, handed him his first-ever National Award.
"For the honourable and dynamic leader Shri Karunanidhi. I received my very first National Award for Saat Hindustani from him, when the ceremony was held in Chennai that year... he was the CM," read Big B's tweet.
The 75-year-old won a National Award in most promising newcomer category for Khwaza Ahmad Abbas's Saat Hindustani. Karunanidhi had presented him the award in Chennai.
Meanwhile, earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Chennai to pay tributes to the late politician. The prime minister posted a series of tweets and remembered Karunanidhi as "a deep-rooted mass leader, prolific thinker, accomplished writer and a stalwart devoted to the welfare of the poor."
The five-time former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi dominated the state politics for six decades.
