Dungarpur (Rajasthan): While Garbage disposal has become a major problem in metropolitan city like Delhi, Dungarpur district of Rajasthan has turned it into a profitable deal. Municipal council of the city is earning more than Rs. 15000 per day by selling the garbage for recycling and other purposes. For this proper system has been developed by the municipal council in the area to segregate dry and wet garbage.
Taking a unique initiative, the council has employed rag pickers and beggars of the city for segregating garbage. They are getting Rs. 250 per day to do this job. A place has also been provided to them with basic amenities to live there. Not only that a plant has been set up to produce biogas.
People are using biogas for cooking purposes and Municipal Council is also selling organic fertilizer in the market which is being produced as by-product during biogas generation.
